Importing a pfx file into Lotus Notes

The Notes recipient receives the following message1 containing an attached password encrypted pfx:

1. Save the pfx attachment onto your system

2. Open the User Security settings page and import the pfx

File → Security → User Security... On the Users Security dialog select Your Identity → Your Certificates
Now click on Get Certificates... and select "Import Internet Certificates" from the menu. Lotus Notes user security

3. Select the pfx file you saved in step 1

4. Select the PKCS 12 encoded file format

5. Enter the pfx password and click "OK"

6. Accept all certificates

We will explain how to receive and send encrypted email.

Receiving signed and encrypted email

A signed and encrypted message looks as follows:

1. Cross certify signer certificate

The first time you receive a signed and encrypted message Lotus Notes ask you to "Cross certify" the signer certificate. Lotus Notes cross certify

You only need to cross certify the first time a new signer certificate is used.

2. Finished.

Sending signed and encrypted email

1. Select the sign and encrypt security options.

If you want to send a message signed and/or encrypted you have to open the "Delivery Options" from the message composer. On the delivery options dialog select the Sign and Encrypt checkboxes. Lotus Notes sign and encrypt

2. Send message.

The message will be signed and encrypted.

3. Finished.
